Japan, perfect oriental destination

Japan has become a unique tourist destination, blending the exotic and ancient with the modernity of the big cities, why travel to Japan? Here are some of the reasons .

Price: It´s much more affordable than you think. The most expensive are the transport, but the accommodations are at the level of a city like Madrid, the food is more affordable (about 10-15 euros per person for dinner) and access to the temples is usually around 4 euros.

What To see: depends on how many days you are going to spend. The best thing to do is see at least Tokyo and Kyoto, because they are very different and it is a way to enjoy ‘the two japans’. Then, you can visit cities such as Hiroshima, Miyajima Yokohama, Kamakura, Nara, Nikko… Many of them are glued to the two main cities and can be one-day visits.

How to get there: There are direct flights from Spain and the journey lasts 14 hours approx. If you are attentive and dedicate some time to the search, there are great deals ranging from 500 euros round trip with companies like Air China, Qatar or Lufthansa.

How to move: The most useful and comfortable is the train. Major cities in Japan are connected by a network of trains that operate at a level that exceeds the perfection. The trains are punctual, you have marks on the platform with the exact place that is going to stop, the speed of the Sinkansen (bullet train) allows you to go from Tokyo to Hiroshima (more than 800 kilometers) in four hours. The transport is not cheap, but for tourists, there is a Rail Pass, a ticket that can only be purchased from outside Japan, and that allows you to take all the trains that you like for 7, 14 or 21 days, depending on what you buy.

Food: No. Japan is not only sushi, also is Kobe beef, grilled fish, chicken skewers, vegetables, tempura, salads of thousand ingredients… You can enter any restaurant knowing that you’ll end up liking your fingers.

Drinking: Alcohol is expensive. A beer can cost about 500Y (6 euros). In the majority of restaurants you have free water and also free tea, coffee is very good also, although expensive.

Internet: Contrary to what you might believe, wifi network in the accommodation is not as common as in European hotels. You will have some in the lobby of the hotel. Nor is easy to find it in the bars, cafes or restaurants.

Credit cards: Japan is changing little by little, but is a cash payment country, so before you go, is better to ask the hotel if they accept credit card, always better to bring money in cash.

Nature: Japan is not only cities. There are infinite, moss-covered temples, magical beaches … you just have to search a little.

– And most importantly, the Japanese: kind, patient, polite, orderly, calm, smiling… I don’t know if I could say something bad about them. As an example, all transports have posters in which you are asked to please silent the phones and do not use it so you not disturb others.. They are very respectful with the rules. And if you’re in the street looking at a map and is you see a local  towars you, don’t panic, they do not want to cheat or steal, only wants to help.
